Jordan Whelan is a media mastermind who has parlayed his communications knowledge into multiple entrepreneurial ventures. Canada’s largest newspaper, The Toronto Star listed him “Top 10 People to Watch” and he was a 2013 finalist for Deloitte’s Emerging Leader Award.
Born in Hamilton, Whelan worked his way up the media ladder at Canada’s largest talk station, Newstalk 1010 in Toronto. He headed production for shows and worked alongside Canadian Late Night Talk Show legend, Mike Bullard. Whelan also drove production for radio powerhouse Virgin Radio and in television for Much Music. In 2013, he created “The CrowdFunder Show”, North America’s first crowdfunding show which aired on Fox Networks. In addition to media production, Whelan is a published writer who has written for The Chicago Tribune, Huffington Post, Toronto Star and for Sun Media, where he penned a syndicated humour column entitled “Try Guy” that ran in over 100 publications nationally.
Whelan left media in 2013 to pursue his entrepreneurial ventures. He first founded Grey Smoke Media, a communications firm in Toronto. He honed his media experience to obtain millions of impressions for his clients which have included high powered law firms, medical software companies and even the current mayor of Toronto, John Tory.
In addition to his communications firm, he co-founded Our Paper Life, a cardboard design firm whose international clients have included The Pan Am Games, The Food Network and multi-national toy manufacturer, Spinmaster. After selling the company in 2015, he has started 3 different ventures in the digital space.
Whelan has provided commentary for over 20 media outlets including Global News, Business News Network, CTV, The Chicago Tribune, Newstalk 1010 and Sirius Satellite Radio.
He is a guest speaker at business, entrepreneurship and marketing conferences across North America
